The DDFL prides itself on impartiality, as such the commissioner has brought in experienced draft analyst Chaz Stormy to see how each team measures up going into the season.
Grades are based on value at given draft position. Comparing where a player was picked versus expectation. Expectation is based on FantasyPro's Expert Consensus Rank or ECR.
#1) Gary Anderson's Right Foot
Chase Gary's right foot, or GARF, had an unreal draft this year, getting value out of his early round picks while also identifying solid sleeper talent in the later rounds. Spectacular from every position. Owner Chase Sperry is only matched in his football acumen by his ravishing good looks. A truly hall of fame level draft.
Draft Grade - A+
Best Pick - All of them Worst pick - None of them |
#2) Stairway to Evans
Matt Although I will praise many of Matt’s picks, let’s be honest that he won the fantasy football equivalent of the birthright lottery in picking 2nd after an insufferable Cowboys homer. Saquon literally got fumbled right into his lap.
What might bring him to the championship though is Round 2 through 4. Resnick generated solid value in those premium rounds with a total of 14.5 over ECR. Dalvin Cook being an especially good pick at the end of round 2. Although he was picked in a good range, I do question Baker Mayfield in the 8th round. While Mayfield has the physical tools, the weapons, and prognosticators favor, I just can’t trust a team lead by Football Grimace aka Freddie Kitchens Draft Grade :
Best Pick : Tommy "Too Many Rings" Brady, +28.7
Worst Pick : Dede Westbrook, -9.7 Overall Grade : +50.7 |
#3) Team DJ6
Ady & Andrew I honestly don't feel good about ranking DJ6 this high. They reached for Le'Veon Bell, hoping that a year of nothing but Hot Cheetos and Madden sharpened his football skills. Then in round 2 they took Tyreek Hill, who is one accusation of literally being satan away from a lengthy suspension. Apparently 4.28 speed is enough to outrun domestic violence charges and public outcry. Kareem Hunt should take notes. Sources close to Hunt's dumpster were able to provide yours truly with this interesting letter.
Somehow bench players like Anthony Miller and Donte Moncrief are dragging this drafts value to our #3. I never said that the grading system wasn't deeply flawed.
Draft Grade :
Best Pick : Anthony Miller, +35
Worst Pick : Devin Singletary, -7.6 Overall Grade : +37.6 |
#4) Team Morris
Mitchell How could you Chaz? How can you give a positive grade to a guy who drafted a player in the midst of a pissing contest with Jerry Jones first overall? Despite the absolute flub, the 1st overall pick Mitchell managed to generate a lot of value in the remaining rounds. End of positive comments.
It is obvious that Mitchell could not turn his back on his Boys. I can't blame him, as it would be difficult to draft a Giant and then face the disapproving looks of the cardboard cut out of Jerry Jones in his bedroom, which I assume he kisses goodnight while whispering "How 'bout them Cowboys" into his ear. Then he took a chance on Antonio Brown who is trying to intimidate the entire league out of sheer insanity. Someone please tell Mitchell that suspensions and fines are not worth points in fantasy.
Draft Grade :
Best Pick : Damien Williams, +15.9
Worst Pick : Christian Kirk, -8.1 Overall Grade : +5.2 |
#5) Team Mangan
Jimmy Unfortunately for Jimmy he seemed to forget that the WR position exists and that you need two of them. He didn't sniff a WR until round 4 and at that point he was desperate for a warm body with two hands, over drafting Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson back to back. Then he proceeded to draft every fringe flex option at the position.
Hell, Duke Johnson Jr may actually somehow be the best WR on his roster despite not even playing the position. I will say that I appreciate him not reaching for Mahomes, staying patient and picking him up at a reasonable position.
Draft Grade :
Best Pick : Kyler Murray, +34.8
Worst Pick : Marquez Valdes-Scantling, -30.5 Overall Grade : -29.3 |
#6) Team Delinquent Duo
Cyrus & Brett Going WR1 and WR2 in back to back picks puts you deep behind the 8 ball. This left them scraping the bottom of the 4th tier of RB for there workhorse. They will be chasing average play at the most important position in Fantasy Football.
In keeping with their namesake the Duo then took a flier on Kareem "hot garbage human" Hunt, in hopes that after his suspension he can keep them from finishing last in the league. Although they got great QB1 value in Russel Wilson in the 11th round. Hopefully, like the Seahawks, he can carry this team to a couple wins. Draft Grade :
Best Pick : Latavius Murray, +21.6
Worst Pick : Kareem Hunt, -55.5 Overall Grade : -72.9 |
#7) Team Dunham
Matt Although there was not really any picks that were abysmal, Matt struggled to identify value in the key middle rounds, which separates bad teams from mediocre teams. He started off with a huge hit when he snagged Nick Chubb who fell to him in the second round, but after that it was uninspired. He made questionable calls taking Mark Ingram over Derrick Henry, Amari Cooper over Keenan Allen. I believe that his “gut” told him that these were his guys, but if I listened to my gut all the time I would be around 300lbs of pure Gyro meat.
He also took Jimmy Graham as his TE1 whose Packers career so far has been a disappointment. To be fair it is more challenging to catch when your hands are soaked in cheese curd grease
Draft Grade :
Best Pick : Nick Chubb, +9.7
Worst Pick : Jimmie Graham, -25.9 Overall Grade : -86.8 |
#8) Team Morgan
Mike .Mike is the leader of the dumpster tier of drafts in the DDFL. After Team Dunham (-86.8) there is 40 point drop off to Morgan at -120.3 over expected ECR. Of course Morgan’s cheese brain hitched his fantasy destiny to Rodgers. Rodgers was a solid pick because he is always a two for one value, when picking him you get Aaron Rodgers AND you get his toothpick collarbone.
His roster, as well as the collective sanity of the entire state of Wisconsin, is built on a foundation that looks like it was made in Arts and Crafts time.
Then Morgan makes one of the biggest head-scratchers in the draft taking DJ Moore in Round 3! Let’s be honest, DJ Moore is going to be Devin Funchess sans the cheeseburgers (the best part). I would continue ragging on this draft but it is depressing me. *downs a handful of Prozac* Draft Grade :
Best Pick : John Brown, +11.2
Worst Pick : Marques Valdes-Scantling, -30.5 Overall Grade : -120.3 |
#9) Wrigley Naf Gilligan
Travis, Devon, & John Veteran John Gilligan handed off drafting duties to the promising, albeit unproved Devon Naftzger and Travis Wrigley. Although I like their draft, it is by far the riskiest draft out of all the teams. N + W picked up solid blue-chip talent across the board, but they defied Gilligan’s wishes. He expressly stated that his roster be:
Sources tell me Gilligan was despondent at the teams draft picks. We’ll see if the risk pays off for the promising duo.
Draft Grade :
Best Pick : Miles Sanders, +11.4
Worst Pick : DK Metcalf, -28.8 Overall Grade : -132 |
#10) Team Berry
Jim I will give Jim credit for employing a unique strategy for his season. He obviously is banking on all the other teams suffering the equivalent of the ACL Bubonic Plague. We’ll see if his innovative strategy bears fruit.
Although Commissioner Chase Sperry pressed for participation in this year’s draft, Berry would have benefit from consulting the deep well of wisdom that is the auto-draft bot. While his picks were mediocre in the early rounds, in the mid-to-late rounds he seemed to not know who he was picking. Sources close to Berry confirmed that he selected Nyheim Hines because “I like that horsey team!”. Truly a spectacular display of ignorance, but with Davante Adams, clever trade maneuvers can get him back in the hunt.
Draft Grade :
Best Pick : OJ Howard, +16.6
Worst Pick : Nyheim Hines, -65 Overall Grade : -144.4 |
